Bloomington, IN (December 3, 2013) FTR has released preliminary data showing November Class 8 truck net orders at 20,915 units - the second consecutive month above the twenty thousand unit threshold. While November 2013 orders were 6% above a year ago they were down 19% month-over-month.
FTR's Shippers Conditions Index (SCI) improved marginally in September but remained deep in negative territory, rising 0.8 points from the previous month to a current reading of -7.9. However even this small improvement in the environment affecting shippers is not expected to hold.
"Additional hires are going to be required by FMCSA changes. If federal agencies do what they say they're going to do, by the third quarter of 2015, we will need to hire another 160,000 drivers." Noël Perry
